Welcome to Civitas Learning ("Civitas Learning," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms and Conditions explain the rules for accessing and using the Civitas Learning website and its educational features.

By creating an account or using Civitas Learning, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the service.

1. What Civitas Learning Does

Civitas Learning is an educational platform designed to help users learn about American history, civics, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, amendments, historical figures, and related subjects through lessons and interactive learning activities.

Features may include student profiles, learning progress, experience points (XP), leaderboards, classroom enrollment, assignments, and educator tools. Features may change as the platform develops.

2. Accounts and Account Security

• You must provide information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
• You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and protecting your account.
• Do not impersonate another person or create an account using someone else's information without authorization.
• Keep your account information up to date when necessary.
• Contact the site operator if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

Civitas Learning may use email verification and password-reset features to help protect accounts. You must not attempt to bypass account security or access another user's account.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Civitas Learning for unlawful, fraudulent, threatening, or abusive purposes.
• Attempt to access accounts, classroom records, or data you are not authorized to access.
• Interfere with the website, its security, or its availability.
• Manipulate XP, learning progress, leaderboard positions, or classroom records through unauthorized methods.
• Upload or transmit malicious code or attempt to exploit the platform.
• Use the platform to harass, bully, or expose another user's personal information.

4. Student Profiles and Leaderboards

Civitas Learning may display information such as usernames, avatars, experience points, or rankings to support learning and friendly competition. Depending on the feature and account permissions, some profile or progress information may be visible to other users, classmates, or educators.

Choose a username and avatar that are appropriate for an educational environment. Do not include sensitive personal information in a public-facing username.

5. Classrooms and Educator Features

Classroom features may allow educators to create classes, distribute class codes, view student rosters, or monitor learning progress. Users should only join classes they are authorized to access. Educators are responsible for using classroom features appropriately and safeguarding any student information they access.

6. Educational Content and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise indicated, the Civitas Learning website design, branding, original lesson text, graphics, and other original materials are owned by or licensed to the Civitas Learning operator and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You may use the platform for personal learning and authorized educational activities. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, or commercially exploit protected Civitas Learning materials without permission, except where the law allows it.

Historical documents and government materials may have different rights or reuse rules from original Civitas Learning content.

7. Third-Party Services

Civitas Learning uses Firebase services provided by Google to support features such as account authentication and data storage. These services may be subject to their own terms and privacy practices. Civitas Learning cannot guarantee the uninterrupted availability of third-party services.

8. Availability and Changes

Civitas Learning is provided for educational use and may be updated, temporarily unavailable, or changed as development continues. We will make reasonable efforts to maintain the service, but uninterrupted access is not guaranteed.

Features, progress records, or other data may occasionally be affected by technical issues. Do not rely on Civitas Learning as the only place where important schoolwork is stored.

9. Suspension and Account Termination

The Civitas Learning operator may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect users, maintain security, investigate misuse, or comply with the law.

If you want to stop using Civitas Learning or request account deletion, contact the site operator using the contact information provided on the website. Requests will be handled subject to applicable law and any legitimate retention requirements.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Civitas Learning is provided on an "as available" basis without a guarantee that every feature will always work without errors or interruption.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded or limited. Any other limitation of liability applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law.

11. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated as Civitas Learning develops. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date. Where required by law, users will be notified of material changes or asked to agree again.
